Agriculture / Energy
Dalby has 2 cotton gins, with the Queensland Cotton gin at Cecil Plains
open for inspection by appointment. Summer crops include cotton, sorghum
and mung beans, whilst wheat, barley and chick peas are grown during
the winter months. Grain silos are a common sight, as Dalby is the largest
rural grain receival centre in Queensland. Livestock properties and feedlots co-exist beside coal mines and power stations. A visit
to the Dalby Wambo Saleyards, the largest single day selling centre
in Australia on Wednesdays is suggested.
For those a little more adventurous, take a trial instructional flight in a gyrocopter, ultralight or microlight from the Dalby Airport (Ph Don 0409 699 115), or an instructional flight in a glider from the Darling Downs Soaring Club field near Bowenville (Ph 46637140).
